Last week, Bowman Power Group scooped two accolades at the 2015-16 Rushlight Awards, which recognise the technology and innovation achievements of UK companies operating in the cleantech industry. Bowman Power Group was named winner of the ‘Power Generation and Transmission’ and the ‘Energy Environmental’ awards.

Bowman Power Group designs and manufactures Electric Turbo Compounding (ETC) technology for gas and diesel generator sets (gensets).  The ETC system significantly improves the energy efficiency of reciprocating engines used for power generation by recovering waste energy from the engine exhaust and converting it to free, grid-quality power. Typically, this provides 4-7% fuel consumption savings and CO2 reduction, or up to 10% additional free power.

The company’s technology has accumulated over 12 million running hours, generated over 350GWh of free energy, saved over 37 million litres of fuel, and reduced CO2 emissions by over 120,000 tonnes. ETC technology has been adopted by leading engine OEMs, power rental companies and independent power producers (IPPs), with customers including Cummins and Wärtsilä.

Now in their seventh year, the Rushlight Awards, presented by Eventure Media, are a celebration and a promotion of new technology, innovation and best practice across the whole environment spectrum for organisations throughout UK and Ireland. The awards are designed to highlight innovation and the holistic environmental benefit of technologies that are most likely to or are already creating a stir in the market.

Bowman Power Group was named as the winner of the Power Generation and Transmission award, which celebrates the most significant engineering development or innovation that has improved the efficiency of energy conversion and/or transmission from fuel source to consumer in the electricity sector.

The company was also awarded the Energy Environment award, for the most significant achievement in reducing the impact on the environment from energy and power generation or end use, either directly or indirectly, for heat, power or fuel for transport purposes.

Dr Toby King, CEO, commented “We’re delighted to have won two Rushlight Awards this year. Coming just a few days after our inclusion in the 2015 Global Cleantech 100 list, this is a great start to the year and wonderful recognition for our team, who have all worked extremely hard over the years to develop and demonstrate the effectiveness and economic benefits of our ETC technology.”
