Bowman Power Group has won the Best Employee Engagement award from the sustainable transport charity, Sustrans.

Southampton-based Bowman Power Group designs and manufactures Electric Turbo Compounding (ETC) technology for gas and diesel generator sets (gensets). The ETC system significantly improves the energy efficiency of reciprocating engines used for power generation by recovering waste energy from the engine exhaust and converting it to free, grid-quality power. Typically, this provides 4-7% fuel consumption savings and CO2 reduction, or up to 10% additional free power.

Bowman, which employs 80 people at its Ocean Quay offices, is committed to sustainability, and continually works to find ways to reduce environmental impact. Recent calculations show that the annual carbon savings from the total installed base of 600 ETC systems across the world equates to almost 100 times the emissions generated from Bowman’s manufacturing facilities and travel activity.

Sustrans works with communities, policy-makers and partner organisations so that people can choose healthier, cleaner and cheaper journeys and enjoy better, safer spaces where they live. The charity has recently announced the winners of the inaugural SME Travel Awards, celebrating the achievements of small businesses that have made changes to their organisational travel behaviour, to make improvements and bring about cost savings, health benefits and a reduction in environmental impact.

Bowman was named winner of the Best Employee Engagement Award, “This company is really taking its environmental impact seriously. It’s developed a Travel Action Plan with Sustrans, and endorsed it with enthusiasm. Bowman believes in the responsibility it has in encouraging its staff to travel to work sustainably.”

Toby King, CEO, Bowman Power Group, commented, “Reducing environmental impact, not only with our technology, but in our day-to-day operations as a business, is a high priority for everyone here at Bowman. We’re delighted to receive this award from Sustrans and will continue to help our team pursue sustainable methods of travel.”
